Morning Routine For Productive Mums

Being a mum is challenging and I am struggling to balance my family-career lives as much as any other mum out there, so, for that, I worked toward organizing my time in such a way I would be more productive both at home and work.

I found a lot of articles about how successful people have a set of habits that helped them in their journey and all had some steps in common. I cannot say I loved all of them, but some are pretty great and I did see a change in my effectiveness.

These are some things that I tried for 2 weeks and loved the results, and any mum can do them easily before 10AM each morning to improve her day significantly.

1. Make the bed. It may sound ridiculous, but it’s so easy to skip this step. An unmade bed is inviting to a lazy day and it decreases the productivity. When you take that extra minute to arrange nicely your bedding and leave the room organized and tidied up, you are consciously starting the day and you do it on a positive note.

2. Remove the stale air. Letting the light and fresh air in is beneficial for both your physical and psychological needs. By opening the windows you get more energised and it can help you focus on your tasks. Doing this in the morning it’s very important as well to avoid the mould growth, to minimise the risk of condensation, to remove some dust mites and freshen up your whole home.

3. Get ready. Pyjamas are comfy and especially now, during the lockdown, most of us are wearing them inside the house throughout the day. When you make the effort and get dressed you are unconsciously embody the meaning you associate with the clothes. So, if you need to exercise, it’s more likely you will focus on your task if you have on trainers, instead of slippers. Even some cream or make up will change your mood in good!

4. Move your body. This is the one step I am terrible at, but I try to stretch at least a few times a day. Doing it in the morning is very satisfying as it releases the tension from the muscles and increases the blood flow, preparing me for a full day. As exercising makes the body produce more endorphins, which are meant to give you that positive feeling, I can’t say why I don’t exercise more (I’m working on fixing this), but I strongly recommend it!

5. Take 5 minutes to yourself. Meditate, drink your coffee, make your to do list, read a book or just enjoy the silence for 5 minutes before the whole house gets up and the chaos starts again! You are entitled to! I prefer to review my to do list and draw when I’m alone, or just to put my headphones on and listen to my favourite tracks!

6. Eat a healthy breakfast. Eating right in the morning will give you the energy and mental clarity to focus on your day’s tasks and therefore be more productive.

7. Tidy up for 15 minutes. I can’t recall where I’ve heard about this, but must be some Youtube video I’ve watched a while ago, but it said that if you tidy up only 15 minutes in morning and 15 minutes before bed time every day, you will maintain an organised environment in your home. I tried it, and it works! Even with kids!

8. Compliment yourself. Sometimes, even waking up is a big accomplishment and you have to compliment yourself. Look at your image in the mirror and say it out loud how gorgeous you are, how wonderful your mind is and how far you will get! You can do everything you put your mind to!

9. Show your affection to the loved ones. Send a sexy message to your partner, even if he is at home, cuddle your little ones and make their favourite breakfast, call or send a text to your best friend! A simple gesture can brighter their day, so it will make your better as well!

Morning routines are important to set the tone for the day and to give you a sense of control. Do you have one?
